Episode 02 MAC

Jason Sirotin:

Hello and welcome to the GreenStone Podcast. I'm Jason Sirotin, joined by Gary Walker, and of course our good friend Mr. Genetics. Today we're going to be talking about the MAC. Man, this one is one of my faves, and I've heard people call it MAC and I've heard people call it M-A-C, what is it? Is it MAC or is it M-A-C?

Mr. Genetics:

It's both. It's an acronym that stands for miracle alien cookies. It's just two pronunciations of the acronym.

Jason Sirotin:

Gotcha. Okay, because I see it's a hybrid and it's a combination of alien cookies with Starfighter and Colombian. Is that correct?

Mr. Genetics:

Yeah. There's a long backstory with this and it's one of the reasons the strain got so popular, is that the breeder calculator got a Colombian Landrace from Columbia and brought it to the states and crossed it with a Starfighter. Then he had his Alien Cookies cut, and when he crossed his Starfighter Columbian and popped those seeds, apparently only one seed took and he called it his miracle seed. And that's where the word miracle comes from, because that eventually turned out to be his male that he crossed with Alien Cookies to make a miracle alien cookie. So there's some kind of backstory and lore to how he got this one seed to germinate and it turned out that start this entire genetic line.

Jason Sirotin:

And it's insanely popular. Do you think the lore makes it that way? Do you believe in the lore?

Mr. Genetics:

Yeah. I've grown it and smoked it myself. So a lot of people say that when they try to describe the MAC, they just say, "I don't know. It's just different than any weed I've ever smoked. It's just different." And there's a lot to that, I think. There's a lot of terpene profiles that are new to me. The way it grows, some of the phenos I've gotten are new to me. Some of the ways a male I've hunted out of that looks new to me. So yeah, it's in a really fun strain and I can see why it got popular.

Jason Sirotin:

What does it look like? What are some standard characteristics of MAC?

Mr. Genetics:

MAC grows really crazy and wild. It's going to have a lot of branches and they're going to grow intertwined. And it's a plant that can get away from you if you don't keep it pruned and strictly disciplined. It's not going to stretch that much in flower. It's going to be more of [inaudible 00:02:29] depending on the pheno you get will depend on obviously troughs and terpenes and yield. But overall it's a nice lavender, floral tone, with a sweet, different kind of smells that accompany it.

Jason Sirotin:

And does it lean more sativa, or indica?

Mr. Genetics:

I would say that one also leans more sativa, but it's definitely a hybrid. And again, different phenos will bring you towards different effects. So you could have the same strain with the pheno that leans towards sativa and another pheno that leans toward indica. So it really depends on your grower and which kind of pheno he's got [crosstalk 00:03:08].

Jason Sirotin:

Right. Gotcha, gotcha. So MAC, a popular item that'll be available at GreenStone soon. Thank you so much for giving us your wisdom, Mr. Genetics. We are really, really appreciative.
